Two Idaho Schools Invited to Join National Effort to Reimagine K-12 Learning

Future Public School and Treasure Valley Leadership Academy (TVLA) are proud to announce their selection as members of the 2017 Invent Cohort at NewSchools Venture Fund. The New Schools Venture Fund Invent Cohort represents a $5.6 million investment in some of the nation’s most promising school models.
Idaho’s Future Public School and TVLA are among 29 organizations from across the country in the 2017 investment group. Each cohort member has committed to launching a school that inspires students to achieve a brighter future.
“Too many of today’s schools were built for a different time and purpose,” said Scott Benson, Managing Partner at NewSchools Venture Fund. “We believe schools can be reimagined to better prepare young people for the future. That’s why NewSchools Invent is proud to invest in these teams of educators who are thinking boldly and creating new opportunities to set students up for success, regardless of where they’re from.”
Already funded by the Boise-based nonprofit Bluum, Future Public School and TVLA are honored to receive this additional investment from NewSchools Venture Fund. Bluum’s CEO Terry Ryan said, “this support from the highly-respected NewSchools Venture Fund is further evidence that Idaho’s new school efforts are moving in a direction that will benefit our state’s children and families, especially some of our currently most underserved students.”
Set to open in the Fall of 2017, Treasure Valley Leadership Academy (TVLA) is a free, personalized, and engaging high school in the Nampa School District that is open to all students who want a personalized learning experience. Treasure Valley Leadership Academy is both specific to students’ individual needs, yet conscious of the larger community through the values of civic engagement and equity.

“The most important part of our mission is the desire to adjust the school to the student, rather than making students adjust to the school,”

said Emmett Wemp, TVLA’s Principal.
Future Public School is planning to open its doors in 2018 and serve its student community through STEM programming, equity of opportunity, and inclusion to help students develop the skills and character to succeed in college and life beyond. “Your zip code shouldn’t determine your destiny,” co-founders Brad Petersen and Amanda Cox said.
